The songs of LIVE BEFORE THE STORM
Disk 1
OPEN LINES
Studio Recording:
Remember The Colours, 1994
First song on the studio album, it also opens the live
album and many High Wheel live performances in a vivid
seventies feel, getting straight into where the fun is.
VOID
Studio Recording:
Back From The Void, 2001
It took over a year until we first played this song live,
because the interweaving patterns of singing and playing
somehow twist the brain.
THE SCREAMER
Studio Recording:
Back From The Void, 2001
Written in a weird mood of apocalyptic optimism, this
is one of the two "big" songs on our 4th album, featuring
Erich on Taurus bass pedals.
GEAR-WHEELS
Studio Recording:
Remember The Colours, 1994
We haven't played this one live for years and years, until
we finally re-discovered it and turned it into something
dear to our hearts.
GNIHTON'S PROMISE
Studio Recording:
Remember The Colours, 1994
An early polimetric experiment. 5/8 meets 6/8 meets 7/8
meets 4/4. But after all it might still be
something like music.
THERE
Studio Recording:
There, 1996
This song changed the most of all our music during the
years. We kicked out one part, but, nevertheless, it's now
much longer and more dramatic than the original version.
Disk 2
OUTSIDE THE CIRCLES
Studio Recording:
1910, 1993
One of our early experiments with long multi-part songs,
odd-time bars and 7-tone-scales. Finally, we managed to put
this one on stage and improve what we recorded in '93.
TRY AN ERROR
Studio Recording:
Back From The Void, 2001
One of the very few High Wheel songs ever written for
a girl. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out romantic at all,
but, at least, it serves for a short drum solo, featuring uli.
HIGH WHEEL IN THE SKY (Part 1)
Studio Recording:
1910, 1993
The first song ever written for the band in 1989. It is still
part of most of our shows. Somehow sounds like a piece
of musical innocence compared to the rest of the set.
THE FOUR REASONS
Studio Recording:
Remember The Colours, 1994
A weird start, lots of harmony vocals and one of the rare
moments for flute, this song, finally, features Andreas on
keyboards at the end of the evening.
INTO VOYAGE
Studio Recording:
There, 1996
Written long before we released our first album, it took
until '96 until we finally recorded it. It's been in all shows
ever since, featuring Wolfgang on guitar.
HATE HOUNDS
Studio Recording:
There, 1996
Final part of the infamous Metamorphosis trilogy, this is
more of a straight Rock feeling with a jam-like ending. It's
the final encore and closes the evening as well as disk 2.
